Mr
Don Clarke MBE
It is with
regret that we inform you that 'Mr Donald Ralph Clarke, MBE'
- Hon President, the Mildenhall Register, died peacefully in
his sleep on the morning of 22/08/11. Don’s
funeral took place on the 5th September, 2011, at Bedford Crematorium.

is a feature length documentary film about the life and experiences
of wartime Bomber Command crews. Two 622 Sqn. veterans are amongst

An Air Gunner's
Log Book Analyised.
Mrs Pat Best,
wife of John D W Best, and Nita & Chris Best have kindly
given permission to publish this account. It has been compiled
by John Johnston, the author of the 149 Sqn history, "Strong
by Night". He has done his usual authentic and painstaking
analysis of the log book and come up with a detailed look at
the selection, training and operational duties of an Air Gunner
on a Lancaster. Well worth a read for an insight into what an
Air Gunner went through in the late war years. Find the account

has, with the help of family members, produced a fascinating
story with some wonderful pictures, documents and memories in
this for us all. The follow up to this story is still going
on today, with a memorial service planned for this year.
